    Education for Every Child

  • Education is a basic right for every child. This right is recognized in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Constitution of Kenya (2010). Yet many children, especially those in marginalized communities, still face barriers to accessing quality education. Poverty, early pregnancies, child labour, and early marriages continue to prevent many children from enrolling in school or completing their education.

    At Victoria Friendly Montessori - VFM Kenya, we work to ensure that children in Rusinga Island and surrounding communities can access inclusive, supportive, and high-quality education that prepares them for the future.

  • What We Do

    Our education program focuses on improving access to education, strengthening teaching and learning, and supporting the overall development of children. We work closely with schools, families, and community leaders to create safe learning environments where children can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

    Our work focuses on the following areas:

    a. Expanding Access to Early Childhood Education

    We support vulnerable children to access Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) by providing safe learning environments, appropriate learning materials, and supportive teachers. Early learning helps children develop strong foundations for their future education.

    b. Strengthening Teaching and Learning

    We work with teachers and school leaders to improve the quality of teaching through mentorship, professional development, and continuous support. This helps teachers deliver engaging lessons and respond effectively to the different learning needs of children.

    c. Improving Learning Assessments

    We support schools to strengthen the use of learning assessments to monitor children's progress. This helps identify learning gaps early and ensures that children receive the support they need to succeed academically.

    d. Mentorship and Life Skills Programs

    We organize mentorship programs that guide children and young people as they grow. Through mentorship, learners receive guidance on personal development, leadership, education pathways, and making positive life choices.

    e. Co-Curricular Activities

    We encourage children to participate in co-curricular activities such as sports, creative arts, music, and clubs. These activities help learners discover their talents, build confidence, strengthen teamwork, and develop important life skills beyond the classroom.

    f. Promoting Innovation in Education

    We promote new ideas and practical solutions that can improve education in our community. By sharing knowledge and supporting innovation, we contribute to stronger education systems that benefit children and schools.
